The seal of the National Federation of Republican Women is the American Eagle, king of birds, holding a quill pen and standing guard over our most treasured tool of democracy – the ballot box. Adopted at the biennial convention in 1944, it portrays the Federation’s interest in the protection and integrity of our electoral process. The American Eagle is adopted from the great seal of the United States. The quill is symbolic of the power of words, especially as contained in the Declaration of  Independence and the Constitution of the United States.

MERWC/NPRW JOINT APRIL MEETING

 THURSDAY, APRIL 26, 2012

 Oakton Library

 10304 Lynnhaven Place, Oakton, VA

 Speaker:  Roxane Gilmore

 1:30 - 4:00 PM

Roxane Gilmore, former First lady of Virginia, will discuss her new book, Restoring the Virginia Governor’s House; Preserving a Historic Home for a New Century.  The Virginia Governor’s House, built in 1813, is the oldest continuously occupied executive mansion in the nation.  It stands majestically in Capitol Square, adjacent to the State Capitol designed by Thomas Jefferson.  As Chairperson of the Committee for the Restoration of the Governor’s House in Richmond, Virginia, Ms. Gilmore brings the complement of insight to the book as a former resident of the Executive Mansion.
